There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch Bowl Inn.
Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the
Wainwright Gold is well kept and a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing wood burner; or in the dining room,
solid and comfortable, with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with cloths;
it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic burr, that makes full use of the magnificent local
Lake District larder.

We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero, and the
man behind Sillfield Farm, who has invited me up to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil Vickery,
who certainty knows his alliums; and the force of nature
that is Lorraine Stanton, something of a legend around
these parts. But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese soufflé,
the texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly,
lasciviously rich. Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham,
is one of the world’s great cheeses, and this is a soufflé of quiet
majesty. A mushroom soup is equally splendid, managing to be
both light and gutsy, while Stornoway black pudding with bubble and squeak
and a deep-fried egg is pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis.

There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare, the skin crisp, the sauce just the right side of bitter.
It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage spiked with shards of
smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb, four vast just-pink slices, drenched in the
stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies; by its side, a tiny shepherd’s pie,
one bite of pure ovine brilliance.

Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully
sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the Lake District
is famed for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic version but ethereal, served with vanilla ice cream and a pot
of sticky-toffee sauce to pour deep into its molten centre.
This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately
done, in the sort of pub designed for lingering.
It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start. But first,
another bottle of wine. Dinners like this are too rare to be rushed.

PLANT OUT SPRING BEDDING 

Wallflowers get their name from their habit of growing near  stone walls. 

Erysimum cheiri are shortlived evergreen perennials or

You can buy them as plug plants now and get them
in the ground to flower early next year. This is

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing, homewares,
food, and electronics.

The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through the cost of living crisis ravaging the
country.

Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.

Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate
partners including Christmas decorations.

Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from Boston Bros. 

Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, shoes from top brands, and even electrical goods at the Vinnies
pop-up locations. 

Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers, and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops. 

There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which
is open until 3 November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas – or until stock runs out.

from [American jewellery brand] Badgley Mischka,’ Beth told FEMAIL.

reported. 

Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex in the desert at night when coming
back from Vegas. But in reality, they were met with ‘creepy crawly desert things don’t sleep at night’.

Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high
school’ covered his girlfriend (including her genitals)
in chocolate syrup. But it didn’t end well — she got infected with
a ‘crazy’ yeast infection. 

Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended badly.

User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time and if you miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates for
the night. Then the people who live there start rustling.’

Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual
fantasies in real life. But a handful of those who have tried
to make their browser history a reality have confessed they didn’t quite go to plan — a thread on Reddit revealed

Another user u/odysseus-23, warned against trying

And while joining the Mile High Club — engaging in sex acts
while aboard an airplane — might sound exciting, some warn that it is anything

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.

Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high
on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap.
There may have been other things on the menu, but
no one paid them much heed. This was all about lashings
of the black stuff.

Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar: ‘there are few better dishes on earth…only
the price, at just under £150, is ridiculous’

Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over
by Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the
brilliant Bellamy’s. It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair backstreet.

But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors were opened to the great unwashed.

Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty – dining room, lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of
a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up by
the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a
loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the
background. The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.

Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale,
luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous couture.

They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.

We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.

We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’,
we would have barely blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream,
are a study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises them to the sublime.
Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous. But there are few
better dishes on earth. I’d eat this every day if I could.

But I can’t. Obviously. That’s the problem with caviar.
One taste is never enough.

TOKYO, Oct 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International Inc will sell cheaper versions of its IQOS «heat not burn» products
in Japan from Tuesday and introduce new upgraded products next month to expand market share, its
chief executive said.

As regular e-cigarettes with nicotine-laced liquid are effectively
banned in Japan, the country has become the main market for
«heat not burn» (HNB) products, which emit less smoke and smell less than conventional cigarettes.

Philip Morris, maker of Marlboro cigarettes, was first to
start selling HNB products in Japan in 2014, but it faces heated competition from British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco Inc and its market share
has stagnated in recent quarters after rapid growth last year.

The companies cut prices of heating devices earlier this year.

Philip Morris currently sells a pack of 20 HeatSticks, tobacco rolls used with IQOS
devices, at 500 yen ($4.43). CEO Andre Calantzopoulos told Reuters that from
Tuesday a new «HEETS» line priced at 470 yen a
pack will be available.

«Clearly, for some people, spending 30 yen more, 40 yen more per day is expensive,» he said in an interview in Tokyo on Monday.

In mid-November, the company will also release upgraded versions of
its «IQOS 3» and «IQOS 3 MULTI» devices. Calantzopoulos said the existing versions will still be available at current prices.

«We want to cater to the entire population. From a pricing perspective, that will help product perception,» Calantzopoulos said.

Philip Morris, the world’s largest publicly traded tobacco company, has seen weaker-than-expected growth in IQOS recently, after building a leading position in the global HNB market.

Japan accounts for about 85 percent of the $6.3 billion HNB market, according to Euromonitor.

Philip Morris says IQOS has a 15.5 percent share in Japan’s overall tobacco market, including conventional cigarettes,
but market share has stabilised.

«I think it’s natural in any category that you have slowdowns,» Calantzopoulos said.

«We have people who adopted earlier and people who are more conservative,» he said.

Philip Morris has also made a marketing application to
the FDA for IQOS, which would allow the company to sell it with a claim of reduced risk.

PMI was spun off from Altria Group Inc, nearly a decade ago,
and Altria will commercialise IQOS in the United States.

Calantzopoulos said the companies would not wait for reduced
risk claim approval to launch the product, as separately,
permission for commercialisation would come «hopefully before the end of the year.»

He said Altria was «ready to launch whenever they get (commercialisation) approval.»

A Reuters report in December identified shortcomings in the training and professionalism of some of
the lead investigators in the clinical trials submitted to the FDA by
Philip Morris.

using a four-page newspaper advertisement to urge
