Rita Barberá, senadora y exalcaldesa de Valencia, ha fallecido esta mañana a los 68 años tras haber sufrido un infarto en un céntrico hotel de Madrid, informó rtve y los servicios de Emergencia de Madrid.
Según Emergencias Comunidad de Madrid han indicado que el 112 ha recibido una llamada del hotel Villareal de Madrid a las siete de la mañana. Hasta el lugar se han desplazado los facultativos que atendieron a Barberá en parada cardiorrespiratoria, y a la que durante más de treinta minutos practicaron maniobras de reanimación, si bien finalmente solo pudieron confirmar el fallecimiento.
Dos vehículos del Summa permanecen en las inmediaciones del hotel, donde acaba de llegar hace unos minutos el ministro del Interior, Juan Ignacio Zoido.
La última aparición pública fue el pasado lunes cuando la senadora por Valencia prestó declaración durante una hora ante el magistrado del Tribunal Supremo, Cándido Conde Pumpido por el ‘Caso Imelsa’. Barberá negó el blanqueo y la supuesta financiación ilegal de Partido Popular valenciano durante su etapa de alcaldesa.
La ex alcaldesa declaró el pasado lunes en el Tribunal Supremo y negó cualquier responsabilidad en el supuesto blanqueo de capitales cometido por el grupo municipal del PP en el consistorio que ella presidió durante 24 años. Barberá se limitó a reconocer que entregó 1.000 euros al partido en concepto de donación que nunca le fueron devueltos en dos billetes de 500 euros.
Barberá fue citada por el magistrado de la Sala II Conde-Pumpido el pasado 13 de septiembre, y un día después el PP la forzó a darse de baja del partido tras 40 años de militancia. Ella, pese a la presión de su partido y de toda la oposición, mantuvo su acta de senadora, lo que le ha permitido mantener su aforamiento ante el Supremo y desmarcarse del resto de imputados.
Barberá fue alcaldesa de Valencia de 1991 y a 2015, diputada por Valencia en las Cortes Valencianas entre 1983 y 2015 y, actualmente, era senadora por designación autonómica.
