Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who remain in Gaza if he died, a top Israeli negotiator has claimed. 

Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered
him by chance, sending a drone to kill the terror leader. 

Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw
Sinwar’s 2011 release from an Israeli prison, along with 1,026
Palestinian prisoners, in exchange for the return of kidnapped soldier
Gilad Shilat, said that his death was a ‘moment of either opportunity or a moment of doom.’

‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed people holding hostages that, should he be killed, they should kill
their hostages,’ he told the Telegraph. 

At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages remained in Gaza, with 60 thought
to still be alive. 

Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to their families,
according Haaretz, which reported on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, have assessed there is a slim chance of a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel
and Hamas.

It received 11 Oscar nominations – two of which it won. 

The sequel, however, has already been much less successful.
It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its first weekend, and has a low rating of
33 percent and 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel convolutes what
could have been a unique character study into a bloated
encore that goes out with a whimper,’ reads one review. 

Another critic wrote, ‘This movie is a disjointed mess and a waste of time.
It’s just tired, not particularly interesting, but it does look good from a production design standpoint.’

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are many ways to serve them (see tip).
The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out
for all beef, or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have
a meal for an emergency.

SERVES 4

4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion

1 onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, chopped

400g tin chopped tomatoes

200g white bread (day old, if possible)

whole milk (enough to soak the bread)

500g beef mince

250g English veal mince

2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

4 anchovies, finely chopped

2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

salt and freshly ground black pepper

350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)

1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive
oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and
half the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to create a thick sauce), while you
make the meatballs.

2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft.
In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of
the onions and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.
Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into
12-14 meatballs.

3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat.

When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour
all over. If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed together,
setting each batch aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.

4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set
aside. Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook through.
Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.

TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of
spaghetti. If you would prefer the latter, cook
the pasta according to the packet instructions until al dente.

Drain it in a colander, reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and
then transfer it back to the pan and toss it with a little olive oil and butter.
Put the spaghetti on a serving plate and top with the meatballs
and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a
sprinkle of parmesan.

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap.
There may have been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much heed.
This was all about lashings of the black stuff.

Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar: ‘there are few better dishes
on earth…only the price, at just under £150, is ridiculous’

Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.

And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by Gavin Rankin (who
used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club
in another Mayfair backstreet. But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow,
meaning the doors were opened to the great unwashed.

Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty – dining room,
lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The
soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up by the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.

The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.

Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale,
luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous couture.
They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.

We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia
croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.

We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma that
had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’,
we would have barely blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with
butter and sour cream, are a study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge
of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises them to the sublime.
Only the price, at just under £150 each,
is ridiculous. But there are few better dishes on earth.
I’d eat this every day if I could. But I can’t.
Obviously. That’s the problem with caviar. One taste is never
enough.

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc is working on options to
exit the Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the
country following its invasion of Ukraine.

The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday
it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and canceled all
product launches for the year in Russia.

It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks, heated
tobacco units intended for use with its IQOS ILUMA devices, as well as related investment of $150
million.

Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to scale down manufacturing operations in the country.

Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to

Nov 29 (Reuters) – England captain Jos Buttler wants to explore the prospect of giving
up the gloves and focusing on his batting under incoming white-ball coach Brendon McCullum as the wicketkeeper-batter eyes Champions Trophy success after two failed
World Cup defences.

Buttler has kept wicket for the majority of his Twenty20 international career, which began in 2011, but chose to
play solely as a batter in England’s recent 3-1 T20I series victory over the West Indies.

Phil Salt took over wicket-keeping duties in place of the 34-year-old, who was making a comeback
after a four-month injury layoff.

«It’s something we tried in the Caribbean, not keeping wicket and as captain being closer to the bowler, which I enjoyed,» Buttler told
Reuters.

«I had more time and energy not being a wicket-keeper and around training as well. That’s something I found interesting.»

McCullum, who already coaches the test side, will take charge of
the white-ball teams when England tour India in January.

«I know McCullum is coming in as the coach (who) in his career moved from wicketkeeper to a fielder, so that’s something I can discuss with him,» Buttler added.

Buttler, under whom England won the 2022 T20 World Cup but failed to defend the
T20 and fifty overs titles, said it’s his «ambition» to win next year’s Champions Trophy
but added that he was trying not to look too far ahead.

«We play against India in the new year before that tournament, which will obviously be a huge challenge and good preparation…,» Buttler said.

«And to be honest, I’m just focused on Brendon coming in and getting close with him and working hard together to take the team where we want it to be.»

NEW IPL HOME

Buttler said he was excited for a new challenge with Gujarat Titans, who
bought him in this month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for 157.5 million Indian rupees ($1.86 million).

«There are guys who I already know relatively well in the coaching staff, like Vikram Solanki and Parthiv Patel,» he said.

«I’m just really looking forward to getting to know Shubman (Gill). He’s an absolute superstar of the game and makes batting look very easy… With my record against Rashid Khan, having him in the team is a big help.

«It’s a really exciting bowling lineup… with guys like
(Kagiso) Rabada, (Mohammed) Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
So lots of pace on show and obviously, Rashid is the best T20 bowler, so getting to see him up close as
well.»

Buttler is currently one of the highest run-scorers in Abu Dhabi T10 where he is in red-hot form with second-placed Deccan Gladiators.

«I was looking forward to playing in the T10 this time.
I’ve never played in it before… it’s not a format that you’re looking to be consistent
in because you’re playing lots of high-risk shots.

I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling
they presented. It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’

Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for
her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside
Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a role that won him the
best actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of the standing ovation it
received at the Venice Film Festival last month.

‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2
and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response
it received from critics before it premiered,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com. 

‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so
much respect for the DC comics fan base.’

They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects they can roll out as they want to move on this
from as quickly as possible.’

the first film was such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.

‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and final film.
Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended
the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo
who arrived at 4:30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote
as he had exams the next day.

April 30 (Reuters) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday said it would allow Philip Morris to
sell a heated tobacco product called IQOS in the United States, a major victory
for the international tobacco giant as it looks
to sell more alternatives to traditional cigarettes.

Following a review of about two years, the FDA determined
that authorizing the device for sale in the U.S.
market was «appropriate for the protection of public health» because the products produce
«fewer or lower levels of some toxins than combustible cigarettes.»

Unlike combustible cigarettes, the IQOS devices heat tobacco-filled sticks wrapped
in paper, which generates an aerosol that contains nicotine.
They are different from e-cigarettes such as the popular
Juul device, which vaporizes a nicotine-filled liquid.

The FDA’s move is certain to add fuel to a growing debate among
public health advocates on whether such smoking
alternatives shift lifelong smokers to less harmful
products or risk addicting a new generation to nicotine.
E-cigarette use among middle- and high-school students surged last
year, according to federal data, sparking a crackdown on the device makers by
the FDA.

Altria Group Inc, which sells Marlboro cigarettes in the United States,
will market IQOS devices as part of a licensing agreement with
Philip Morris International.

Altria Chairman and Chief Executive Howard Willard said the IQOS will first be introduced in the Atlanta
area, through an IQOS-branded store and other convenience store outlets
such as Cirle K. The products will be sold in Marlboro and Marlboro menthol flavored varieties.

The move gives Altria yet another stake in a product designed as an alternative to traditional
cigarettes, following its $12.8 billion deal in December to
take a 35 percent stake in Juul Labs Inc.

Unlike the Juul, where users insert a pre-filled, flavored
nicotine cartridge into a device resembling a USB,
IQOS users insert what looks like a miniature cigarette
into the end of a device, which heats the
tobacco for inhalation.

André Calantzopoulos, CEO of Philip Morris International, called the FDA announcement a milestone.
«All of us at PMI are determined to replace cigarettes with smoke-free alternatives that combine sophisticated technology and intensive scientific validation,» he said.

While Tuesday’s FDA decision allows Philip Morris to
sell IQOS products, they must carry similar warning labels as traditional
cigarettes and are subject to the same restrictions on television, radio and print advertising.

The FDA also placed restrictions on how
the products can be marketed on the internet and through social media.

The FDA is still reviewing the company’s request to make claims that the products pose less
of a health risk than cigarettes.

IQOS is currently available in Japan, South Korea, and throughout
much of Europe. Tuesday’s announcement by the
FDA opens a huge market for the devices and the decision is likely to be cited by health regulators

Japan was one of the first markets where Philip Morris introduced IQOS, and it remains one of the most popular markets for the devices.
E-cigarettes using liquid nicotine are not allowed in Japan,
meaning heat-not-burn devices such as IQOS have less competition from vaping devices.

Philip Morris International has made the IQOS a centerpiece
of what it is calling its «smoke-free future» initiative, which the company has promoted heavily in full-page newspaper advertisements in the
United States and across the world.

Company executives have promoted the idea that non-combustible products such as IQOS will replace cigarettes and that the company is well positioned to help smokers switch to less harmful products.

Anti-smoking and public health advocates have criticized the campaign,
asking why the company does not stop selling cigarettes
altogether. Last year Philip Morris International derived about 14 percent
of its annual revenue from «reduced-risk products» such as IQOS.

In its review of the IQOS product, the FDA found
that Philip Morris’ studies «do not demonstrate reduction in long-term disease risks,» but found that smokers who switch completely to the
IQOS «will have reduced toxic exposures and this is likely to lead to less risk of tobacco-related diseases.»

The FDA’s review found that current cigarette smokers were the
«most likely» group to use IQOS. The agency
noted there was limited research on youth use of IQOS,
