Se trata de un distintivo que se concede a las fiestas, siempre que éstas ofrezcan una especial relevancia desde el punto de vista turístico y supongan una valoración de la cultura y de las tradiciones populares valencianas.
Esta declaración se ha otorgado en el marco del Decreto 119/2006 del Consell, por el que se regulan las Declaraciones de Fiestas, Itinerarios, Publicaciones y Obras Audiovisuales de Interés Turístico de la Comunitat Valenciana.
Este reconocimiento avala el atractivo turístico de esta fiesta de San Gil, muy arraigada en Enguera, cuyos orígenes se remontan hacia el año 1790, aunque el primer testimonio escrito de la existencia de la fiesta es de 1862.
Esta festividad se celebra el día de San Gil, a principios de septiembre y en ella concurren actos como la recogida de hinojo, la elaboración de ramos, cruces y porras embellecidas con diversos materiales, así como la procesión de ramos, talleres, degustaciones gastronómicas y venta de productos locales artesanales.
Por último, señalar que con esta declaración, ya son 45 fiestas de la Comunitat Valenciana las que cuentan con el reconocimiento de «Fiesta de Interés Turístico Provincial».
