reported figures vary at exactly how pricey
it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it pegged
at $190 million. Warner Bros. released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from
415 IMAX screens.
Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788 screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate to
$121.1 million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.
Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally, it’s made over $100 million. Warner
Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One
landed in fourth and Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded
out the top five.
The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White Bird,
flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.
Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome
twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box office deficit.

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with the idea to make the Joker sequel a musical.
‘No fan of the original movie wanted to see a musical sequel,’
he wrote on Saturday.
The first film was also divisive and the subject of much discourse, then about
whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type of
person. And yet people still flocked to see what the fuss was about.
Joker went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture
and best director, and three wins. It also made over $1 billion and was
the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, until this summer when Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine
took the crown.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and labelled a «sham» by
the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and
legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for the South West
Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party,
in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems,
including issues with tablets used to register voters
and shortages of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries and mobile voting
teams had left areas with voters still in the queues,
it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote for a second time,
giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday,
including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote
as he had exams the next day.

Gift disclosure logs for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) leadership positions show commissioners are all part of Australia’s ‘most exclusive club’ the Chairman’s Lounge membership extended by invite only by the Qantas chair.
This has raised concerns over how impartial the body would be
when dealing with Qantas matters.
If Mr Albanese has requested flight upgrades from
former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce directly, as reported in a new book, he
may have fallen foul of the strict Ministerial Code of Conduct which prohibits ministers
from seeking ‘any kind of benefit’
Commissioner Paul Brereton declared Chairman’s Lounge membership in 2023,
as did the CEO Philip Reed and deputy commissioners Jaala

Applicants must ‘have experience working in a fine dining environment and the ability to work a
seven- day rotating roster.
The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy when booking Qantas flight by personally requesting them from Mr Joyce are made
in a new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.
Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while
in his various parliamentary jobs, which included Minister for Transport to ask
for special upgrades that only the CEO could dole out for himself or his family.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’
and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and
Honolulu.
The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having a ‘plus
one’ Chairman’s Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie
Haydon did as well.
Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared in the appropriate way’.
WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?
The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.
It has been dubbed ¿the most exclusive club in the country¿ and comes with a distinct black card.

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days after a chaotic
election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power,
was marred by technical problems.
Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s
election was marked by long delays and labelled a «sham» by the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed
as the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems,
including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink
had run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas with voters still in the queues, it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral
commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen,
about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo
who arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but left before
being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

«Everyone will have the chance to vote,» he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling
station, he was worried «everyone will flock to one place again.»
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with
some calling for a halt in the electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement,
according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for
Change (IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence are challenging support
towards SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become
the first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the
mineral rich country.
«To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,» said
voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues
despite trying four different polling stations.
«Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?» asked the 49-year-old security agent.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Reuters) – A Malaysian court ordered the government
on Monday to return rainbow-coloured watches and accessories made by Swatch Group that were seized last year
for designs celebrating LGBTQ rights, a prosecutor told Reuters.
Homosexuality is illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia, and rights groups have warned of growing
intolerance toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and
queer (LGBTQ) community in the Southeast Asian country.
In May 2023, Malaysia confiscated 172 rainbow-coloured watches
from the Swiss watchmaker’s ‘Pride collection’ from 16 outlets due to the presence of the acronym ‘LGBTQ’ on the timepieces.
The government later prohibited any LGBTQ references on Swatch watches, boxes, wrappers, accessories or other items, saying such products may harm morality and public interest.
Swatch Group filed a lawsuit challenging the seizure, saying it was illegal and damaged its reputation.
On Monday, government prosecutor Mohammad Sallehuddin Md Ali said the Kuala Lumpur
High Court had ruled the watches must be returned to Swatch Group within 14 days.
«No order (was given) as to costs,» he said in a brief text message
to Reuters.
A lawyer for Swatch Group declined to comment on the decision.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government
respected the court’s decision and would wait for the full judgement to be released
before deciding whether to challenge the verdict.
The watches are unlikely to be sold in Malaysia due to the
government’s prohibition order.
In July 2023, the government halted a music festival in Kuala
Lumpur after the frontman of British pop rock band The
1975 kissed a male bandmate onstage.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who came into power two years ago on a progressive campaign, has said LGBTQ
rights will not be recognised by his administration.
